PHILOSOPHY

CEC provides a discovery-based learning environment that helps children develop and acquire skills through a predictable sequence of stages. Discovery Learning consists of…

  • Learning in a developmentally appropriate setting;
  • Encouraging children to be spontaneous and creative while at the same time teaching respect for others;
  • Allowing children to manage their own learning;
  • Knowing that children learn what seems important and interesting to them;
  • Providing a broad spectrum of activities within the child's chronological and developmental age;
  • and Involving the whole child in the learning process -- physical, emotional, intellectual, and social.

CURRICULUM

The curriculum at CEC is composed of three elements: themes, discovery centers and math/reading readiness.

Themes

Teachers plan classroom activities around weekly themes. Themes may incorporate seasonal events (such as holidays) or highlight specific topics such as animals, dinosaurs, families, or the five senses. Teachers use themes to provide structure in the classroom and to create cohesion between activities designed to encourage language development, socialization skills, and creative expression.

Discovery Centers

We offer an age-appropriate, interactive approach to learning through the use of Discovery Centers. Centers include block building, writing practice, counting games, reading areas, art, dramatic play, science, and outdoor play. Enrichment classes such as GymJam and Spanish enhance the learning experience.

Math and Reading Readiness

Our teachers foster reading and math readiness through hands-on, interactive activities such as story time, story dictation, shaving cream writing, object grouping, and pattern recognition.
